İstinyePark Talking Trees — a gamified mobile experience that lets visitors scan QR codes attached to the trees inside the mall and hear each species "speak" through the app.
Brief
The starting point for this app was a simple observation: many kids today follow technology as closely as adults do, yet rarely know the trees they walk past — they cannot answer questions like "How long does an olive tree live? How many bamboo species are there? Does the camellia shed its leaves?" The "Talking Trees" mobile app we built for İstinye Park lets the trees themselves answer. QR codes placed in front of each tree, both inside and outside the mall, are scanned through the app, which then "talks" as the tree, sharing its story, age and ecology. Visitors who meet every tree in the park earn surprise rewards. The app added a fun, educational discovery layer on top of the mall’s normal shopping traffic. The visual language uses bespoke illustrations for each species, child-friendly voiced characters and a collection system that ties into in-mall store rewards.
